The Echo Wall (Blog 3)

The Echo Wall is the wall surrounding the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, China. The wall is 3.7 meters high, 0.9 meters thick, and around 65 meters in diameter. The name of the Echo Wall comes from its ability to act like a giant sound channel, transferring a person's voice from one location of the courtyard to another. The wall is able to achieve this task because of its hermetical wall assembly, in other words, it is airtight. When someone speaks into a certain location of the wall, the sound can only resonate in the air gap of the wall and it is transferred to another location to be heard.
